Clayton, Dubilier & Rice today announced that Simon Tinkler has been appointed as Senior Legal Advisor to CD&R LLP. In his new role, Mr. Tinkler will work closely with the European investment team to support CD&R LLP’s existing portfolio companies and offer strategic advice on new transactions.

Mr. Tinkler has worked closely with CD&R LLP on a range of transactions including the 2013 acquisition and 2014 public listing of B&M Retail, one of the largest value variety retailers in the UK; the 2015 acquisition of Motor Fuel Group, the largest independent forecourt operator in the U.K. by number of sites; the 2016 acquisition of BUT and subsequent combination with Conforama Group, creating the largest furniture retail group in France by revenue; CD&R’s 2020 investment in LSE-listed SIG plc, a leading distributor of specialist building products in Europe; last September’s take-private of UDG Healthcare which was combined with existing portfolio company Huntsworth tocreate a scaled global pharma services leader; and last November’s landmark acquisition of Morrisons, one of the United Kingdom’s leading grocers by revenue.

Mr. Tinkler joined Clifford Chance, an international law firm headquartered in London, in 1995, becoming a partner in 2000 and later serving in various leadership roles including head of HR for the London Corporate Practice and Head of London Corporate Practice. He specialized in international public and private M&A with a particular focus on private equity transactions and other aspects of corporate finance work. He has advised private equity firms, corporates, and investment banks on a wide range of matters, including leveraged buyouts, IPOs and PIPEs, acquisitions and disposals, takeovers, mergers, joint ventures, restructurings, and refinancing.
Mr. Tinkler was appointed as Deputy High Court Judge in England and Wales in 2021. He sits on the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, an independent body that oversees allegations of misconduct against members of the legal profession. Mr. Tinkler holds a B.A. in Law from Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge.
